How planning will help my construction

Overall I have felt it very useful to plan for my music magazine because it will ensure I know exactly what I am doing for when I start my construction. The first item I started with which I felt would help me greatly when planning was my mindmap. The reason I completed a mindmap was so that I could see clearly which areas I needed to plan and so that I could ensure I had covered all areas and not missed any feature out. The mindmap also helped me come up with general ideas before I had started planning the specific areas. I am very glad that I did the mindmap because it helped me a lot when planning.

I felt a good place to start was ideas for names of my music magazine. Some of my favourite names were TVBtunes which stood for 'The Very Best Tunes', 'Tunes', 'Hitz' and 'Fresh'. However I felt some of these portrayed a more R&B feel for the magazine rather than pop. I also thought ''TVBtunes' and 'Tunes' sounded quite young which is why I didn't choose them. After many thoughts and ideas I came up with 'Loud'. I like this name because it is bold and vibrant which is what pop music is like therefore feel that it represents the genre of the magazine well. Loud also links to music which again makes the reader know it is a music magazine.

Once I had chosen the name for my magazine I started looking at some fonts and designing it. After designing a number of fonts, my favourite fonts were: 1, 2, 5 and 7. I am going to go with font 5 because I like the 3D effect it has and the bright blue colour of it because I feel it will attract reader's when on the shelf. However when it comes to constructing and it doesn't look correct, I will think about using one of the other fonts.

After this I started to look at the layouts for my front cover, contents page and double page spread. I have decided to use layout 3 for the front cover because I feel my images will fit well around all the other features. I think I may have a slogan saying 'The hottest and loudest tunes right now!' because this links with my name of the magazine and clearly shows the magazine is a music magazine so that the reader can clearly see it is music themed when it is on the shelf. I have decided on layout 3 for my contents page because I like how the two columns are staggered so it won't be one lump of writing. I also like how there is room for a second image and any promotions I will choose to include. For my double page spread I think I will develop layout 1 because I think the two columns next to eachother will give a mature look. The pull quotes will help break the writing up so that reader's aren't put off from the amount of writing.

The next area I looked at was fonts. I first looked at fonts for my writing throughout the magazine. After testing different styles I am going to choose font 2: 'Elementary SF' because it is a simplistic font therefore won't take the emphasise off the images and main headings. The font is also rounded so will fit with the other rounded- bubble style fonts. For the sub- headings I think I will use 'Toledo SF' because it clearly differs from the elementary font which is what I want because it will help the reader to distinguish between the headings and normal fonts. I also feel this will fit in well with the other fonts I am going to use in my magazine.

I then took various photos for my front cover, contents page and double page spread. I felt it was important to have the same artist featured in all three pages so that it all links together. I like images 1, 3 and 4 the most for my front cover. I like how they are all directly looking at the camera in order to make it personal to the reader. I like how image 3 includes the iPod because it emphasises the music theme of the magazine. I haven't yet decided which image to use as I am going to see which looks the best once I start constructing the magazine. For my contents page I like images 1 and 2 due to the relaxed poses. I think I will choose image 1. For my double page spread I am going to choose photo 1 but may also include photo 3 in the magazine somewhere.

The final feature I planned was the colour schemes. I think I am going to use colour scheme 2 because I feel they are the most eye catching and appealing colours. I think they will attract reader's due to them being bright and vibrant and hopefully attract older female teenagers due to bright pinks and purples not being used.
