Contents page 4th draft: This fourth draft is definitely the most successful. It is similar to my third draft however I incorporated the light blue colour from my front cover in order to ensure the page links to my front cover and double page spread. I also put the 3D effect on the 'LOUD' title of the magazine which is the same style as my front cover font. This makes a unique logo for my name of the magazine therefore the reader can associate the specific style of writing with my brand of magazine. I included an editors note at the top of the page because I feel this makes the page look better and more professional. I chose not to include a photo of the editor because it would not be very good quality as it will be very small and blurred. I adjusted the font for 'this week' so it matches with the rest of the text on the page.
I feel this draft is a successful contents page and includes all of the codes and conventions a magazine must have. However, to improve this further I will change the percentage of '47%' to a rounded number like '40%' because I feel the reader will be able to remember this number better than the odd number.
Contents page 3rd draft: This i
s my favourite draft for my contents page. I think the black background of the title gives the page a frame and draws the reader's attention to the title. I highlighted specific words which I felt would most interest the reader so that they become attracted with what the magazine is offering them. I included a pug which had a 3D effect because I felt the black shadow links in with the black backgrounds. I also felt it seperates important/interesting information and the information inside it is exclusive to my magazine meaning reader's will be able to distinguish between competitors.
In this draft I included a promotion box which is promoting the subscriptions to Loud. I feel this is important because it gives the magazine a professional look and it makes the reader want to continue reading.
I changed the large numbers to smaller ones because I feel this makes it look more sophisticated and less childlike. The features are all written in a different font too called 'Segoe UI'. This font is rounded and fits in with the name of the magazine and the pop genre.
Overall I feel this draft is successful because I feel it would attract my target market and many other customers. The magazine also promotes the artist well due to the images I have used. I may continue to improve this by adding an editor's note because I feel this makes the page look professional. I may also introduce the light blue colour so that the house style is continued throughout each page of the magazine.
Contents page 2nd draft: I prefer t
he title being 'This week' rather than contents because I feel it sounds more sophisticated than calling it contents page. I made the 'Loud' title bigger to show it is the contents page from Loud. I decided to split the features into different columns so it is easier for the reader to find what article they are looking for. I also think the page looks better and neater with the clear bold headings.
I adjusted the location of the image to the right side of the page rather than left because I want people to read at least the first column before looking straight at the image. I changed the background colour to match the front cover. I added a very small photo of the editor of my magazine so the reader can see who it is.
The black lines help to seperate each article and overall make the page clearer and neater. I included a thicker black line to underline 'This week' and the sub headings so that the reader can clearly see what the sub- headings are.
Finally, I included a 'regulars' section to show the magazine is successful and included some of the specific features in every issue. To improve this I will adjust the location of some of the fonts and images on this page because some parts are not in line so I will ensure everything looks correct in my next draft. I will also try to involve the subsriptions/promotions box which I included in my first draft, but it didn't fit. I will attempt to make space to see if it fits anywhere on the page because I feel this helps to successfully promote my magazine and make the reader's want to subsribe to my magazine.
Contents page 1st draft:This is my first draft of the front cover. I felt it was important to keep the same background colour as my front cover because it helps link the magazine together and show the reader it is from the same issue. It also continues the house colour scheme throughout the magazine which is important because then the reader can associate the colours with my brand of magazine. I chose to put the logo of 'Loud' at the top of the magazine because it again emphasises the name of my magazine so that the reader can remember it. I also included the issue number so loyal reader's can track which issues they have purchased and when. I included an editor's note at the top because I felt it made the page look more professional. To improve this section I will add a small image of my editor.
I decided to set my page in two columns with a black line seperating each article. The numbers are in a larger bold font so the reader can clearly see which articles most interest them and go to those specific pages straight away. I also included a promotions box where I included a subscription offer and advertisement of the free itunes vouchers which are given away in the magazine. To improve, I may split the columns up with sub headings of 'Regulars' for the regular items involved in the magazine, 'Features' and 'Offers'. I feel this may make the page look more sophisticated and appeal to an older audience. It will also help the reader know exactly what is included in the magazine and will be more clear. I will take a photo of some itunes vouchers to include in the promotions box. Overall I am pleased about how my contents has turned out but feel it needs some improvements.
