I created 8 areas which are neccesary to plan. I started off with coming up with different ideas for the name of my magazine. My favourite name is 'LOUD' because I feel this represents the pop genre because it is loud and bold. The connotations of the word loud is bright and bold and is a one syllabal word which creates a quick and abrupt sounding word. The reader will be able to immediatley read it on the shelf and decide whether to buy it. It will also stand out from the other magazines due to the instant and bold name which comes across to the reader. However I also like 'LOUDER' but it isn't as abrupt and shocking as 'LOUD'. 'TVBtunes' (the very best tunes) also was one of my options because I liked how it stood for something. However it could attract a younger audience than what I am aiming for and sounds quite cheesy. The TV may also make it sound like a television magazine which is why I am not going to choose this for the name of my magazine. Pop vibe was another suggestion which I liked because it clearly portrayed the genre of my magazine however would appeal to a much younger girl I feel. 'Bass' and 'Hitz' were also some ideas but I felt this would be more appropriate for a Hip- Hop/drum and bass magazine rather than pop. I liked the idea of calling the magazine 'Fresh' but again I felt it would give off the connotations of R&B/Hip- hop.
The next area I looked at was the colour scheme of my magazine. I liked the idea of having a bright colour with silver to make it look more sophisticated and older to appeal to older female teenagers. I'm not going to use bright pink as one of my main colours because this will make the magazine a much younger style which I don't want to achieve. I like the idea of navy and silver, purple and silver and blue and purple. However if i use bright blue and bright purple this may also look too young therefore I think I would choose either purple/blue/navy with silver. I want the background of my magazine to be a plain light colour so that the attention is focused on the central main image and the large name. The title is either going to be purple or blue with a silver glow.
I then looked at the contents page. I will have large numbers of the same font used for the name on the front cover and also have them in either blue or purple. I will then briefly explain what each page has on it.
I thought it was important to suggest various cover lines for my front cover to relate to my double page spread. I like the idea of '2012 is going to be my year' because when I do the interview for my double page spread I can ask the artist about how they will achieve this and I feel it will create an interesting article for the reader to read. I also liked the idea of 'I will never go back to how I used to be' because then the reader would become interested in what has happened in the artist's past and hopefully read on.
For my main image on the front cover I want a sophisticated female looking directly at the camera in order for my target market of older teenager girls to relate to the artist. I will ensure that her clothing, hair and make up fit with the pop genre of the magazine and link in the house colour scheme used for my magazine. On my contents page I will have the same artist but in a different postition/background to emphasise that this is the main article and the same for the double page spread.
I haven't decided whether I want a slogan for my magazine yet but if I do I like the idea of 'Newest, hottest, loudest' and 'Turn it up louder'. I feel it is important for the slogan to relate back to the name of the magazine.
The last item I looked at was any other items for the front cover. I am going to use a couple of pugs to highlight specific information because I feel this feature is successful in catching the reader's attention. I will also write the names of specific well- known pop artists on the front cover so that the reader is more inclined to buy the magazine in order to find about more about their favourite artist. I will then include pull quotes from another article included in my magazine of 'How to make sure you get the hottest concert tickets of the year' because this may interest some readers who enjoy going to concerts and therefore attracting them to read about it.
