This image was taken as i want a young female artist on the front cover.

I feel having a black ground links into the theme of Hip hop/ Rnb very well as the colour symbols hip hop as a whole.

Again i have used the same image but have choosen a different background for effect. A graffiti background i feel makes the image more attractive as my audience are drawn in to by the use of colours in the background.

I was looking for a similar effect with the Graffiti background. I collected some images that i may consider using as the front cover of my magazine. I wanted to go for a more Hip hop style front cover and i thought this would be achieved correctly by having a 'young' band that stand behind a Graffiti wall which connotates Hip hop, beats as reasearch has shown the most young people start their music careers by the influence of society. I feel the images reflect the style i am looking for. I will experiment with all these images and choose which one i believe will look the most appealing to my audience.

I have looked at other magazines, for ideas for a colour theme i will include in my magazine. I looked particularly at RWD magazine company as i feel their magazine is much more like what i am looking for. I wanted to look at different colour scheme to help me influence the colour choice i am going to make when making my magazine.

These colour schemes have helped me decide what colour schemes i could use for my final magazine design. Whilst contemplating which colours to use, i looked at my questionnaire results and decided the colours my audience had choosen were appropiate but i feel if i do more construction, i can see whether these colours fit with my design and look appropiate for my audience. I will experiment with colours and see which ones become attractive with my original image that i will be using for my front cover.

I have considered a few names for my magazine, I have not decided on one but as i do further planning and looked at colour scheme I will decide soon.

A few ideas were:

Scratch, Double beat, Switched, Paradise B, Paused or H vibe.

I have chosen these names as I feel it links to the effect I am looking for. I want to emphasise my magazine as "Something New" almost as if its pushed other magazines out the way. For example the word Scratch emphasises that the magazine is almost violent- related which then again links into hip hop as most hip hop beats are very powerful and sudden. I want a name that will appear as something interesting but hip hop related, in term of the music its self.

Front Cover

I have decided that my front cover needs to be appealing to my audience, as from my research I found that my audience are attracted by the front cover straight away. The front cover will include a fairly large image that takes majority of the page, however I want it to stand as a background image so it doesn't interfere with other elements on the page such as The title of my magazine i feel this layout is more eye catching. I have also come to the decision of making my title stand out but i want my image to be the main attraction as it is going to be a capture of young band/ artists this would be successful as my audience are aimed at the younger. I'm hoping by the appearance of my artist/band on the front cover my audience may be able to know what type of genre the magazine will be. I feel features such as the title and colours need to link into the genre of my magazine very well for my magazine to look appropriate. I will be using the font MS Reference Sans Serif, therefore I will need to look at my title carefully and make sure I can adjust my colours to fit in with my magazine.

When attracting my audience I want them to immediately grab my magazine and know that it's a music magazine, so i may include some sort of instrument or music- related object, or something simply that relates to hip hop music. I will be using Front Cover Design 4 as i feel it suit what i am trying to achieve. Its a less busy layout and I feel it will grab the reader's attention.

Looking at the music Industry

My questionnaire results aided to my decision on where and how i would sell my magazine to my audience. I researched in magazines, looking at particularly at the the music magazine circulations in 2008. The table and graph below shows figures of the scale in which these magazines are being sold.

I can see that from my reasearch, people nowadays purchase their magazines from places such as large supermarkets, this could be because of the easy access the pulic may have and also supermarkets tend to advertise a wide range of different genre based magazines, which could mean that the public have a variety of magazines to choose from. I have also researched that other places such as newsagents and online wepages can also sell magazine issues to their audience, this is because it causes alot less hassle as they can purchase the magazine online or at a smaller shop. This creates a wider market within my audience as more people are willing to go to a supermarket and buy a magzine and other are willing to buy online or in a smaller shop.
Selling my magzine in a Supermarket would mean more viewrs and purchasers as there are alot more people buying them from supermarkets, My questionnaire results show this.

RWD is one Music magazine publisher that appears in the table above, figures show that there was not a dramatic decrease in sales change.
RWD stands for rewind magazine. Its a british magazine that features elements such as news, interviews and charts on hip hop, RnB, UK garage, Drum and Bass andUS house music.

Rewind magazine issues are realeased monthly, distributing 36, 040 copies.

The music magazine publisher names itself the largest magazine on urban music in the UK.

From my planning I have decided to use the font MS Reference Sans Serif, i decide to use this as i thought it would be an effective font to use for the front cover as it would stand out, however i have decided to use Segoe print for pull quotes on my front cover.

My magazine will feature a fairly large image on all three pages, a front cover, contents page and double page spread. These pages will have a capture of a young artist as it would appeal more to my audience.

My magazine is aimed at a group of young people between the ages of 14 - 17.

I will include colours such as Cream, Black, turquoise and possibly gold.

I will set my magazine at a price of £2.50

I would like to have each issue correspond with each other, as I will produce a new issue each month.

Within my magazine I will make sure features such as chart details are up to date, also together with interviews, pictures/ photo shoots, information on current artists etc.

I will make sure there will be some sort of freebie when my audience purchase my magazine.

Information revealed on the front cover will be limited so my audience will be aware of what features will be shown inside. My content will be an important within my issue so i will make sure my contents takes over the space of 2 pages.

Having any interview within my magazine will included more pictures than text.

Contents Page
The contents page appears to be neat through features such as Cloumns and sections. The contents page takes over 2 whole pages. One of the pages has a fairly large image printed of a young teenage girl in what could be seen as a club; with the dark ligthting and dark colours behind her. This again links to the front cover as the different successful techniques used, such as the rave, neon colours link to the picture of the girl in the club. The overall layout is orderly as it is not cluttered so it doesn't irrate the reader as they may find it annoying to read if text, pictures are scattered everywhere. The colour scheme of the contents consits of the colours such as black, white and yellow, however the black over rules the contents page. These colours used have been continued from the front cover to show it also links in theme aswell. The images and text are printed careflly, for instance there is a smaller image again printed next to the larger picture of Calvin Harris. Underneath this picture it states: "VIP" with that it metions clubs, news and reviews, which then again links to the them of raving which is associated with a night club. The text itself of the contents is very clear and portrays information of the features of the pages effectively as it gives the page number, the topic of the page, printed in bold and a brief caption of what is on the particular page. At the very bottom of the page it shows the free CD and a listing of the tracks included on it, which tries to promote iot and the tracks and from the front cover. The technique of this is effective as it adds a mixture of information to the pages so it dosen't seem boring to the reader.

Double page Spread
The double page spread agin uses the technique again of filling majority of the page with an image. However on this page it fills the page with a multiple of images of Calvin Harris with the flame effect continued. Calvin Harris seems to be the theme throughout the magazine, meaning that he could be a very popular and audience would want to see him, but also to carry and follow on the house style. The colour scheme again is followed on to this double page spread which also again adds to the house style. Features such as a drop cap are used for effect, in this case it has been used the start of the intervie, so the reader is immediately dragged in to the big bold letters, this is so they don't cause uncertainty when reading and so it is easier to follow.

The front cover

The layout of the front cover is simple, not too much appearing on the page, less busy which is symbolic as it could reflect what news/ information on upcoming events or gossip by artists is produced throughout the magazine. The use of the colour white as the background colour is effective as it grabs the reader straight away; it also contrasts with the picture, as the picture is printed in black and white. The Picture on the front covers takes most of the page which emphasises the point that the music band could be well known or big in the music industry. The picture is the main focus, it’s a capture of the band ‘Arctic Monkeys’ standing in an order looking straight at the camera, this shows a lot of seriousness and could also show that the magazine is confident that their target market will like them and therefore buy the magazine. There are four members in this band and all seem to be wearing casual clothing, for example the guy standing in front is dressed very relaxed a shirt with un-done buttons and a blazer with jeans, where as they guy to the right of him is dressed in a white t-shirt meaning that any reader would assume he might be the quiet one of the group hence why he dressed differently to the others. Also the guy in front is holding an award, which links with the stories included inside the front cover. The Long shot image is clean not cluttered; it captures the band looking straight at the camera which also shows seriousness. They also have long hair and looks a bit scruffy which represent their target audience and the genre of music. There are no captions on the front cover, meaning that there could be a limit to what is inside the magazine and could be the fact that they are selling the magazine just on the band and a the image. The design of the image being big could mean most of the magazine is covered with ‘Arctic Monkeys’ information on the recent awards. Red, white and black are the main colours printed on the front cover, these colours connate what the audience may think of the band of the type of magazine, boring. The title has uniqueness as it is one letter ‘Q’ and is ambiguous as it has a double meaning, almost like a pun as it could mean the magazine is cueing new bands and artists in. The letter could be seen to be a symbol for the band, for example, it could an abbreviation for the word questions: the band has so many questions from fans and that all answers are revealed in the magazine. The cover line at the top of the page states that this is ‘the award issue’ meaning that it’s a different issue released this week, also the fact its placed at the top means that its important: separated from the rest of front page feautures, this could also mean that it’s a different issue there for have a different band on the front: On the front of the page there is a gold strip of different artists that came up in award i.e. Lilly Allen, U2 etc. The pug is positioned in the bottom left of the magazine, with a bar code, and on it there is the price, and date (month/ year).

Contents
The content page takes up the space of two pages and has a large image on one page and on the other consists of small little images. The images, are captures of the artists' names printed on the front cover. The layout overall is neat for example the columns and text boxes, it's not cluttered a bit like the front cover. The colour scheme is very simple, using colours such as black, white and red which links back to the front cover. The text is printed neatly and clear which is effective as it gives information on the features of the other pages. The contents page includes sub headings that are underlined and follow a column alignment a bit like the front cover. At the bottom of the page, it shows a picture of Cheryl Cole, listing what was included in the Q review.

Double page spread.
On the double page it includes two drop caps at the beginning of the story. It also has casual language such as ‘init’; it has a fairly large image of the band ‘N Dubz’ which reflects the language used on the opposite page. On the page with the image it has a pull quote of what one of the members had mentioned later on in the magazine. The text on the left hand page has only two columns which is clearly represented which could mean what is being said by the band is very clear in which the way they want to portray it to the target audience. It also helps guide the reader. Again the colour is limited on this page, for example the background behind the band is black which could mean something bad has happened in their music career or they could smell trouble as the images shows them serious. This also links top the pull quote printed as they are talking about their 'Haters'. The words read in the poll quote are symbolic as they had said. 'the haters come at you to plunge a big metal thing into your leg or neck'. This again is symbolic as the large picture has two of the band members revealing both body parts. i.e neck and legs.

Question1.
The most popular font that my audience seemed to be happy with were MS reference Sans Serif and Segoe print. As these fonts come into view with my audience and I will make sure and choose a font that would meet my audience and be appropriate to my Hip hop magazine

Question 2a and b.
a. Again I got a selected number of results for this question. I wanted to see which hip hop artists appealed to my audience the most. I found artists such Lil Wayne, Chris Brown were the most well-liked by my audience so I will consider featuring these artists throughout my magazine.
b. My results showed that each person who filled my questionnaire, picked a favourite artist and would like to hear about their favourite artist in my magazine. i found these questions very helpful as when it comes to producing my magazine i now know that my audience would expect to see their favourite artists as well as hearing about latest news on them.

Question 3a.
I collected a wide range of answers for this particular question, I gave the audience a question they could put their own answer to. I feel colours play an important role when making a magazine as whatever colours are produced on the front cover need to be carried on throughout the magazine so they can create a sense of style and follow on the theme I have created. My answers weren't very specific as I got a few popular answer. From what I seen, colours such as blue, black, gold, purple, white and cream appeared to be well- liked.

Question 3b.
My previous question was asked, so I could see what my audience wanted to see for their magazine. However the colours they chose meant that did want to see them in the magazine.

Question 4.
Form these results i have noticed the public dont tend to buy hip hop magazines regulary, so i will make my magazine attrative so i can attract my audience and i will also inlude information they will find enjoyable,so they will want to read other issues.

Question 5.
My results show that i got a varied response from my audience the most popular elements were Gossip and Current Artists, so i will make sur these will definately appear in my magazine.

Question 6.
The most appropiate price my audience compramised with was £3, so i will sell my magazine at this particular price.

Question 7.
I had no results for not wanting each issue to correspond with eachother so i will make sure each issue with correspond either by theme or what the topic is.

Question 8.
My results show that appearence on the contents page will play a big part in my magazine. So i will make me contents page is appropiate for my audience and will also make sure its relevant to whats in my magazine.

Question 9.
I will include picture that relate to my interviews, so it can make the appearance of the page stand out and eye catching. As my audience preferred pictures, it would make sense that i put pitures on the double page spread.

Question 10.
My results tell me that my audience would rather have a CD as the freebie included with the magazine. so i will considered putting a CD.

Question 11.
I had asked this question to see if i could get a wide range of answers and was interested to see what my audience would like to see on the double page spread. The most popular elements the audiencepreferred were Gossip and Photographs.

Question12.
Majority of my audience wanted what was revealed in the magazine to be exposed on the front cover. However i disagree with this and think that if all is revealed on the front cover, they are less likely to read the whole magazine, so i think i should limit how much i put on the front cover.

Analysis on General Questionnaire

The results I collected from my general questionnaire give me a range of ideas on what i could produce for my magazine. Within this, i took in to account that i had more females than males answer my questionnaire but i will produce a magazine that is appropiate for both girls and boys, so i have decided that my audience will be males and females with an age range between 14- 17. However i will inlcuded information that could attract other age ranges such as 26-30. I want to create a magzine that will attract my audience immediately, this is determined on how well i have made the appearance stand out and other different features with be important so i will work on this. I have decided to sell my magazine at a price of £2.50 as i think its a reasonable price for my audience.
I have also decided to print a young female artist on the front cover as i had i found i had more females answer my questionnaire, also i can make the magazine more appealing to other girls as i am on myself. Keeping up to date will be a priority, so in every issue ill include up to date stuff that occurs in everyday life.
i have produce another questionnaire, so it can funnel out my results so i can actually pin point what i can include within the magazine. this questionnaire will help me produce a magazine that could be well known. this particular magzine will help me pick out important factors, such as what colours i can use, what specific information they want on the front cover, double page spread etc. I think i will find producing this questionnare helpful as i can meet my audiences views on what they would to be seen in my magazine.

Question1 – what gender are you?
The graph shows that I asked a range of males and females, the results show that there were slightly more females than males asked. So I will focus my magazine for females.

Question 2 - How old are you?
The results show that the most popular age ranges were from age 14- 17 and 26- 30 meaning that that I will produce my magazine appropriately to suit my target audience. Based on my questions, I have a range of answers from different ages.

Question 3 – What genre of music do you listen to?
My results show that that the most popular genre that were well- liked by the people I asked was Hip- Hop; therefore I will focus my magazine on the genre, hip hop.

With this particular question I had a wide range of answers, for instance majority of my answers all came under the genre category for R’ n’ B, I also recognised that most of the results for this question were mixed showing that their favourite artist/ band were male artists, or bands such as Eminem, and JLS and many more. This question I wanted them to specify why they liked the favourite artist/ band, many of them said it was because the likes their lyrics and could relate real life experience with them and have enjoyable beats.

Question 5 – Do you keep up to date with music?
This question I asked was whether or not I can focus my magazine on current artists that they might not have heard of. However my results show that not many of the people I asked keep up to date with music so this in effect could change what type of magazine I could make. The younger people I asked said yes so this means that if I create a magazine to younger people I would include current artists that they would already be familiar with.

Question 6 – Have you ever read a music magazine?
The graph shows that majority of the people I asked had said they have never read a music magazine.

Question 7- Do you buy music magazines regularly, if so how often?
This shows that most of the people I asked rarely purchased magazine regularly. A few answered that they did buy music magazine, once a month.

Question 8 – How much would you spend on a magazine?
This shows that people are willing to pay £3-5 on a music magazine which is considered a reasonable price. So I will make sure my magazine will be sold in this range.

Question 9 – Where would you purchase your magazine from?
This graph shows that that people tend to buy their magazine from a supermarket rather than from the internet fro example. This shows that people actually make the effort to go to their local supermarket to purchase a magazine.

Question 10 – Do you buy a magazine based on?
I got a range of answers for this question, a lot of people tend to purchase music magazine to either keep up to date with the music or to have an idea of what is going on with artists. This shows that it plays a key part in magazine and the majority of the people would like to see band and artists, so I will make sure my magazine includes similar features.

Question 11 – Does the appearance of the magazine influence your purchase?
This shows that majority of the people I asked are influenced on the appearance before buying the magazine.

Question 12 – Would you prefer to know about up coming or current artists?
This graph shows that talking about Current artists where more appealing to the people I asked. So i will include information on current artist inside my magazine.

Question 13 – would you expect interviews in your magazine?
This shows that people answered yes to expecting an interview meaning this means I will have to produce an interview to suit what the people want.

Question 14 - What is the main thing that influences you to buy a magazine?
I had a wide range of answer for this question, many of which stated that they would be influenced by the front page stories and topic of the conversation inside the magazine. Another was regular features included such as what is happening later this week.
